LOS ANGELES, CA- The French indie pop sensation formerly known as Christine and The Queens, now going by the stage name Redcar or Chris, has made a triumphant return to the US music scene with a series of performances at the world-renowned Coachella festival. In addition to his festival appearances, Chris added a string of solo shows to his itinerary, including a spellbinding performance at the legendary Fonda Theater in Los Angeles.

The sold-out show was opened by Lewis Ofman, who had previously performed at Coachella just a few days earlier. Ofman energized the crowd with his one-man electronic dance show, setting the perfect tone for Chris to take the stage and unleash his unique talents.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I was eagerly anticipating Chris’s return to the stage, especially after his announcement earlier this year that he self-genders as male. Chris’s journey with gender has always been tumultuous, a sentiment that is relatable to many, and his authentic approach to his identity has made him a beacon of hope and inspiration for the community. His shows provide a safe space for those who need to let loose and feel free, and the atmosphere at the Fonda Theater was no exception.

As the lights dimmed, Chris took to the stage, and the room erupted in warm, heartfelt cheers. He started the set with “Ma Bien Aimée Bye Bye” from his 2022 Redcar album and immediately captivated the audience with his poetic choreography. He continued to intrigue the crowd with surreal theatrics, a signature of his live shows, throughout the night. Highlights of the performance included “Les étoiles”, “La Chanson Du Chevalier”, and “Saint Claude”.

One of the most memorable moments of the night was Chris’s unique cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ classic song “Under The Bridge”, intertwined with his own hit “Tilted”. The mash-up was unexpectedly cool and had the crowd singing and grooving along like never before.

Chris also gave fans a sneak peek of his forthcoming album, PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE, which features a guest appearance by the queen of pop herself, Madonna. For the encore, Chris donned glorious angel wings, delivering a prayer towards the self, while driving us to a heart-opening transformation.

Chris’s performance was an immersive experience of transcendent emotions, as he connected with the audience through his powerful voice and expressive dance moves. It was an unforgettable show, and Chris’s authentic approach to his identity has earned him a special place in the hearts of his fans. Merci, Chris, for an incredible night, and congratulations on living out loud and proud. We appreciate you!
