A legitimate pop star in his homeland, Conrad Sewell impressed an early afternoon audience at L.A. PRIDE with his R&B infused pop songs. With three 2015 ARAI nominations, and a number one radio hit, “Start Again”, in his native Australia, Conrad is taking steps to break into the U.S. market. He definitely got West Hollywood’s attention.

The audience was wooed by the soulful tone of his voice, and the charm with which he delivered his performance. He left a positive impression on me, momentarily reminding me of Thicke’s (Robin Thicke before he rebranded himself) “A Beautiful World”.

I was pleasantly surprised when he faithfully covered Musiq Soulchild’s “Just Friends” (see the clip below), giving me the impression that his rather rapid rise in popularity in his homeland was no fluke. It’ll be worth keeping an on eye on this one. Given the right music to record, breaking in the U.S. seems entirely doable.
