I hadn’t heard of Spencer Ludwig before I seen his name on the lineup for L.A. Pride. His promo photo with the trumpet really intrigued me because you don’t see too many pop acts who perform with instruments, let alone wind instruments. I had a feeling I’d be in for a treat and 27-year-old Ludwig was no disappointment.
It was very refreshing seeing someone so young perform with such an old school style and spirit. Spencer Ludwig has the kind of music that bends genres and can get you dancing no matter what type of music you’re into, what age you are, or what background you come from – especially his performance of his fun and upbeat single and fan favorite “Diggy”.
Aside from his amazing music, Spencer has this cool, effortless deep-artsy-bad-boy style about him. Someone you’d desperately want to befriend in high school. He was donned in a wide-rimmed fedora, pearl-rimmed classic round sunglasses, and a black and gold bull-fighter jacket. His look for the day definitely matched the spirit of the festival. I’m sure he gets some of influence from his equally stylish mother, who wore an aqua blue two-piece ensemble with platform sandals. She was spotted in the crowd dancing and singing along with the rest of the fans. Some of Spencer’s loyal followers even recognized and said hello to her.
For me, the energy that he brought to the pride stage was reminiscent of James Brown’s showmanship with a splash of Bruno Mars’ confidence. I learned later that Spencer is a former member of band Capital Cities, who I was able to see live before. The influence of his time in the band is still with him, but Spencer is a break out star in his own right.
Spencer Ludwig recently receive 2 million listens on Spotify is currently on a multi-city tour.
