LOS ANGELES, CA- Bryan Chase burst onto the music scene in 2013 as a member of The Cohort. Known then for their trap-style hip-hop music, they gained widespread popularity for their signature tag, “Underwater Squad,” and their unapologetic approach to music. Now, after an eight-year hiatus, Bryan Chase is back with his first solo EP– 2U– which introduces a fresh musical style from the rapper. This style combines traditional trap-style elements of Korean hip-hop with R&B and soul influences.

Chase has been associated with various labels, starting with Hi-Lite Records, then CXSHXNLY/ 88Rising, before moving to THE BLACK LABEL in 2017. This label was created by producer and former artist Teddy Park, who serves as the executive producer of this album. The album also builds upon Chase’s collaboration with BIGBANG member TAEYANG on “Nightfall,” a track that showcased his unique and soulful vocals.

Significant anticipation surrounded this release, and I had high expectations for the album. However, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Chase’s signature style interwoven with new elements and featured artists. The EP comprises six songs, beginning with “Restart it,” an aggressive rap track with a repetitive chorus proclaiming, “We going dumb restart it, we going dumb restarted.” The track radiates high energy, augmented by a production that includes heavy 808 bass lines, sharp hi-hats, and distorted synthesizers. This style echoes Keith Ape’s “It G Ma” and Denzel Curry’s “Ultimate.”

The standout track on the EP is undoubtedly “2U,” a collaboration with A Boogie Wit da Hoodie that conveys a powerful message of defiance and self-assuredness in the face of critics and haters. Importantly, this song aligns perfectly with the timing of the album, marking Chase’s first release in eight years. It feels as though he has a point to prove with this new project, despite already having a decade-long career in the industry.

I believe this EP undeniably substantiates that point. Chase proves himself as a versatile artist, and this first release with THE BLACK LABEL positions him for continued growth and success. I’m eager to see what he will do next, and I will certainly be tuned into his future releases!”
