LOS ANGELES, CA- On March 4th, 2018, Sarah Barthel, Josh Carter and company p/k/a “Phantogram” performed a banger of set that injected a bit of life into the second day of Air + Style. Their brand of heart pumping electronic rock was accompanied by a visceral LED lighting display that gave the performance a really complimentary setting for their music.
For even a casual fan, Phantogram’s performance at Air + Style would have been 100% entertaining. With no new music to promote (their last album “Three” was released in 2016), their setlist was basically a list of hit singles and fan favorites, generally opting to keeps upbeat rather than slow it down with their darker fare.
Sarah’s performance was particularly fun to watch. Perhaps she was a bit inspired by the couture she wore to begin her performance. With its dangling gold strands that danced around her body as she moved, her energy and stage presence from the get-go was captivating.
It’s a pretty good bet that as long as Shaun White and Sarah keep their romance blooming, Air + Style will have Phantogram back for future performances (the last time I attended Air + Style, Phantogram was also scheduled performer), and I, for one, wouldn’t mind that at all.
