As soon as Mndsgn took to the stage, the crowd was already amped to see him perform. He hadn’t even started performing yet, merely setting up for his set, and the crowd as already cheering and chanting his name with tons of energy.

At that point I already knew he was going to be on my list of favorite performances for the day. I sat at a distance from the stage, but I felt very much like I was standing with the crowd right in the thick of it. The high intensity of the bass in his music and the energy that he and his band performed with could be felt throughout the entire park, generating a great sense of excitement. Although he has been categorized by some and an indie-electronic artist, his musicality was on full display as flavors or hip-hop, jazz and soul saturated the air with arrangements that utilized the non-electronic sounds of trumpet and jazz flourishes.

Mndsgn did a great job with engaging with the audience, getting the crowd to join in on some call and response, and having the the crowd wave their arms in the air en masse to the music. Some artists are either born with that charismatic intensity or learn it over time with practice, whichever the case was, Mndsgn turned up and turned out!
