If there something we can use a litlte bit more of today, it’s joy and positivity. Depending on your own social and political leanings, the current times could have you feeling a little down. My recommendation? Listen to some Masego. As one of the openers for Snakehips’ headlining gig at The Wiltern for Red Bull Sound Select’s “30 Days In L.A” concert series, Masego and his band gave a rousing and thoroughly enjoyable performance.
Perhaps it’s in his blood. Hailing from Jamaica, his innately good-spirited and carefree nature may simply be in his genes. And that innate joy is embodied in his music, which he has described as “TrapHouseJazz”. Using musical elements from all three genres, his sound is something uniquely his own.
His performance on stage was equally spirited. Whether pounding out chords on his synths, blowing intently into his saxophone or singing/rapping his catchy melodies, there was a permanent grin on his face. And that grin, along with his music, was infectious as hell.
