When LCD Soundsystem announced that they would be retiring in 2011, I had the feeling in my gut that they’d be back. After all, their third studio album, 2010’s “This Is Happening”, was way too good for them to just call it a day. Even after their much hyped farewell shows in New York (which I, obviously didn’t attend), I still believed that I’d be able to see them perform again at some point. My guts been good to me … and earlier this year, LCD Soundsystem announced that they were reuniting for a tour and to also record new music.

James Murphy, realizing that the band’s un-retirement would rub some of their fans the wrong, explained where he and the band were coming from in lengthy Facebook post:

let’s just start this thing finally with some clarity.

i write songs all the time. sometimes they’re just weird songs…

I forgave them. Especially after I saw that they were one of the featured headliner’s at FYF this year. Especially after James Murphy and company closed the festival with a set that had everybody in attendance dancing to their infectious tunes.

LCD Soundsystem 8/28/16 @ Fuck Yeah Fest. Setlist.James Murphy was as charismatic as a frontman can be.  His intense performance of “Losing My Edge”, accompanied by the frenetic visuals projected on the screen behind him, was particularly noteworthy, proving to me that he hadn’t lost a thing. The edge was also clearly with the band, as they jammed out hit after hit with immaculate precision. Clearly this group of players was meant to play together.

LCD Soundsystem’s groove was so intoxicating, like Hot Chip the night before, there wasn’t a single person within my view who wasn’t moving to the beat.  Even though my feet had been killing me after walking around on pavement for the past two days, that pain dissipated into the ether and I found myself uncontrollably moving with the crowd. It was a cool summer evening, but I found myself wiping sweat from my brow as LCD Soundsystem’s layered sonics pulsed though my veins.

This was the perfect end to weekend’s festivities. Thanks, LCD Soundsystem. So glad to have you back.
