Xavier Omär can croon. In fact, the vocalist’s smooth tones and teddy bear physique got me thinking he’s kinda got a vibe that would result if you mixed the musical genes of Teddy Pendergrass and P.M. Dawn’s Atreell Cordes in a test tube. Surely, his loose affiliation with Soulection has some influence on the sonics of his musicality, but at the root of it all, it’s his buttery vocals that makes his a voice to remember.

For the first half of his set, Xavier played to his strengths. Surrounded by the romantic architecture of The Belasco, his ballads resonated with the audience, especially the women. Addressing them directly, he gazed longingly into various eyes in the audience, truly capturing intimate moments and surely gaining new fans.

Towards the later part of his set, he became more playful and performed upbeat numbers, even covering snippets of some classic “R&B” jams from the mid 80s-90s. While it gave him the opportunity to reveal another side of personality, I personally would have wanted to hear more of the smoothed out jams from the first half of his set … and I’m a dude.
