Vigil Of War Rock Memorial Day At The Whisky With L.A. Guns THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: Vigil Of War @ Whisky A Go-Go 5/28/18
LOS ANGELES, CA- There’s a new face rocking the Sunset Strip, and it’s Vigil Of War.
Founded by Alicia Vigil (She Demons, We Start Wars) in 2017, the band released their first EP, “Bite The Bullet”, last year. It’s a solid 5 cuts of well produced shredders with memorable hooks that had me feeling some “Pretty Reckless” vibes, and those vibes were enough to get me excited to head out and catch them for their gig at the Whisky A Go-Go during memorial day.
I gotta say, I was really impressed with how Vigil Of War sounded live. For a band that hasn’t been around too long, Alicia (bass), Shane (guitar/keys), Chris (drums) and London (guitar) sounded very polished. Every guitar solo was executed clean and crisp, and with the same kind of intensity that Chris was pounding away with on the kit. As if I needed some kind of co-sign to verify my observation of their talent, late in their set Johnny Martin and Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns joined them on stage to perform the L.A. Guns fan favorite “Never Enough” (see video below). And in case you don’t know who the f*ck L.A. Guns are, you better recognize.
But even with a pair of Sunset Strip stalwarts on stage, all eyes (and ears) were on Vigil Of War’s front woman, Alicia Vigil. Yes, she’s a very pretty girl, objectively speaking, but what makes her truly sexy is the way she carries herself on stage. Armed with her bass, dressed in tight black attire, singing into a mic mounted on a machine gun with her military cap drawn down over her eyes, as her band shred through riff after relentless riff, she evoked a mysterious and rebellious aura that simply screamed the kind of hard rock I remember from the late eighties and early nineties … and I was really feeling it.
They’re still a young band, and they’ve still got to beef up that repertoire to have some longevity, but I think the future looks, and sounds, very promising for this band.
Vigil of War will continue to play Monday at the Whisky A Go-Go throughout the month of June. Check ’em out.
