Timeflies is an American indie pop duo of producer Rob Resnick and vocalist Cal Shapiro. Known for their original music and their extremely popular YouTube covers (over 175 Million views!), they have a die hard fanbase that have pushed their original tunes to the top 10 of Billboard’s Top 200, iTunes Top Pop Albums chart and Billboard’s Top Digital Songs. Consistently selling out venues when headlining tours, their spot right before L.A. PRIDE‘s night 3 headliner, Carly Rae Jepsen, was well deserved.
Cal Shapiro is both skilled vocalist and rapper. His tenor voice is clear and resonant, able to handle the lyrical flows contained in each song. His stage presence was undeniable, and as he ran back and forth across the stage, jumping in the air, climbing onto the speakers in the photo pit, I was thoroughly impressed with the way he was able to maintain his breath support and stay in tune through the performance. That dude must be in some seriously good shape … Although Rob Resnick spent most of the set manning the decks upstage, he did step forward on occasion to act as a hype man to pump up the crowd; but with Cal’s performance and their larger than life LED screen visuals, the hype was already there.
As a way to engage the audience even more, Cal brought out a DSLR camera and announced to the audience that he would be taping the audience so that he could add them to a future “Timeflies Tuesdays” video. The “Timeflies Tuesdays” YouTube video series has the group post a new video almost every other Tuesday, which allows them to connect to their fans. Needless to say, I have a feeling that everyone in attendance at L.A. PRIDE are religiously checking the Timeflies YouTube channel for that video to be published.
