The Black Dahlia Murder Unleash The Widowmaker At Ozzfest Meets Knotfest THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER @ OZZFEST MEETS KNOTFEST 11/5/17
San Bernardino, CA- If you are a band … any band … trying to grow your fanbase, you’ll want to take a page out of Black Dahlia Murder’s playbook. These guys are relentless road warriors, touring and playing domestic and international gigs all year around even when they don’t have a new album to support. In 2016 alone, these guys brought their melodic death metal to at least 117 venues! At least 69 venues in 2017 have hosted the band, and having just released a new album in October (“Nightbringers”), it is a pretty sure bet that they won’t be taking a break from the road anytime soon.
But it’s that relentless touring, and their innovative metal sounds, that have endeared them to the metal heads around the world. It was no surprise to see the huge crowd that gathered around their stage at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest who furiously headbanged to the frenetic/kinetic relentlessness the band unleashed.
When I first listened to their album “Nightbringers”, I was immediately drawn in to the album by it’s opening cut “Widowmaker”. The ominous drums and bass that lead into the brutal riffs and lead singer Trevor Strnad’s ferocious delivery got the adrenaline pumping in my veins immediately. When they started their set at the festival with that cut, I got tingles in my spine as soon as I heard the ominous opening. The tingles continued throughout the set.
The band will be invading Europe for the first few months of next year (30 gigs from February 10th – March 18th!!!!!), but I have a feeling that they’ll be setting up another domestic slate of gigs shortly thereafter. Keep a look out.
