Hollywood, CA- As the year winds down, I take stock of all of the shows that I’ve attended and organize the notes and photos that I’ve taken from each outing. I go to a lot of shows… perhaps too many… and there will be times when I neglect posting thoughts and galleries on acts that I’ve caught because they may not have been the act that I was tasked to report on and I simply didn’t have enough time at that moment. Well… now that I have a bit of time, I get to remedy that problem.
The Amazons are an up-and-coming English rock band from Reading, Berkshire. Formed in 2014, they’ve taken some pretty big strides this past year earning a handful of prestigious accolades getting included in the BBC’s “Sound of 2017”, MTV’s “Brand New 2017” lists and being highlighted as a band to keep an eye on in 2017 by NME, The Independent and BBC Radio 1 … I’m surprised that this was an act that I neglected to post about them sooner.
These young lads definitely had fans in the audience, and after hearing their music (for the first time) I understood why. They have a polished sound that’s big on riffs and rock and roll to its core. Their compositions and arrangements seem to have anthemic qualities, backed by a huge sound. While they may not be the same musical styles as Biffy Clyro or Enter Shikari, these chaps, with their smart songwriting- seem to be taking a page from their elder’s playbooks and performing and playing bigger than what you would anticipate.
