AUSTIN, TX- I hadn’t planned on dropping in at The Creek and the Cave, but a local friend suggested I go and check out the venue that was once the beloved rock and roll Barracuda which is now a stage primarily for comedy. He promised I’d have a chance to see some of the local talent gracing its stage and assured me I wouldn’t be disappointed. I only had time to catch one act, but my friends were right. It was S.L. Houser, and I wasn’t disappointed.
The act that delighted my senses was multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Sara Houser, performing with a full band under the name S.L Houser. It seems that Sara has firmly established herself as a beloved figure in the Austin music scene over the past decade. Her impressive musical background includes a degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Houser has made her mark both as the frontwoman of indie pop quartet Löwin and through collaborative efforts with acclaimed artists such as Spoon, A Giant Dog, Golden Dawn Arkestra, and Walker Lukens. In 2021, she embarked on a new solo endeavor under the moniker S.L. Houser.
Based on the performance, it’s clear that Houser has a knack for playing with various alt-rock sounds, showing her prowess as a versatile and technically skilled musician. Houser strikes a delicate balance by infusing her performances with a certain degree of vulnerability and allowing her genuine musicianship, as well as that of her very talented bandmates, to shine through.
With only a handful of singles out under the S.L. Houser moniker, I’m excited to see what else Sara has up her sleeve. Her musicality seems to give her endless options… and I can’t wait to hear what she creates next.”
