As a millennial who was in middle school when The Simple Life took over the culture in 2003—and a freshman in high school when she broke into music with her hit “Stars Are Blind”—I’ve always been very familiar with Mrs. Hilton’s game. Back in the day, everything was “hot,” and not even girls in the South were immune from trying to speak with her signature vocal fry. She even had me wanting to copy her style as a goth girlie with her appearance as Amber Sweet in Repo! The Genetic Opera.
Paris’ icon status has never wavered in the past two decades; it’s just shifted online. Her TikToks are legendary, and she has everyone making sure they’re sliving their best lives. She’s also carved a lane for herself in the DJ world and is known for stellar, crowd-hyping sets. Her presence is undeniably magnetic—equal parts nostalgia and forward-thinking. As she breaks back into original music with her most recent release Infinite Icon, it makes total sense that she would play Outloud. She has always had a loyal gay following, and she proved that she loves them right back with her set on Sunday night.
As the lights went down and her name flashed in giant letters behind the riser on stage, she rose up through the floor like a glittering phoenix. The first words she spoke into the mic were her signature “yeah” and “that’s hot”—and from that moment, the crowd went wild. She had us in the palm of her hand.
