TORONTO, ON- To draw comparisons from R&B legends like Otis Redding and Sam Crooke is truly impressive and that is exactly what many think of when the name “Leon Bridges” comes to mind. Leon Bridges, born Todd Michael “Leon” Bridges musical style is a unique one; an interesting blend of classic neo-soul mixed with a modernized R&B style which has seen the Texas native make tremendous progress over the years. With a voice that boasts killer power and range, Bridges’s display of expert showmanship had not only myself but the Toronto crowd hooked from the very beginning as he stopped by the Echo Beach stage on his “Good Thing” promotional tour.
Leon Bridge’s 2018 international tour in support of his sophomore LP, Good Thing, has landed the debonair talent in some very sizable venues; only fitting that hundreds upon hundreds of people witness his validity. In all honesty, Leon’s Toronto show drew probably one of the largest crowds Echo Beach has seen so far this year.
With a stage set up that was full of bright, theatrical visuals, Bridges slyly tok the stage as his backing band kept up the rhythm to the opener “If It Feels Good (Then It Must Be)”. Moving smoothly around while showcasing his vocals, LB showed the energy and bravado of a young James Brown which everyone seemed to be totally digging.
Leon was pulling out all the stops on this night, strutting around with confidence and completely owning the stage throughout his entire performance. The way the horns in the background blared and the guitars strummed along as matched Leon’s energy as he serenaded the crowd to perfection.
Emanating an inviting aura from the minute he started, Leon’s set culminated in the renowned singer, songwriter saving the very best for last. Closing out the night with an encore of “River”, easily his most popular song he has put out to date, Leon was simply marvelous. Jamming out on his guitar while his backup vocalists harmonized perfectly with him, Leon showed exactly why he is arguably one of the most well-rounded talents out there today.
