LOS ANGELES, CA- Have you ever been standing around at a club waiting for an artist you’re not familiar with to start playing, then all of a sudden the band starts to play and you’re like, “Holy shit!”? That happened to me when I saw ModPods open for Broken Baby at The Satellite.
Modpods is the brainchild of Myriad Slits (vocals) with Daniel Guzman and Mindee Jorgensen, who rotate around during the performance on drums, bass and guitar. They performed an awesome set that was fun yet visceral, focused yet jubilant. Equal parts punk, post-punk and pop, and all blended to perfection. It’s a sound that had me feeling some Gossip vibes circa “Music For Men”, but with a more eccentric twist.
I absolutely loved Myriad’s confidence on stage. The room was her congregation and we were all listening to her musical sermons that were drenched in danceable post-punk flavors. And like those who become consumed with the spirit, bodies were moving wildly to their beat when the music’s tempo picked up.
I’m feeling ModPods. I think you will too. You should check them out.
