Handsome Ghost’s Heartfelt Melodies Warm A Chilly New York Night REVIEW+PHOTOS: HANDSOME GHOST @ BOWERY BALLROOM 2/17/18
NEW YORK, NY- Halfway through the set I made my rounds to the back of Bowery Ballroom in NYC. It had been about ten months since I watched Tim Noyes and Eddie Byun play at Baby’s Alright, a much smaller and intimate venue, and what had changed in that time has been awesome. Handsome Ghost has released a debut album “Welcome Back” and even though they are this time supporting the band flor, Handsome Ghost are picking up fans right and left for the lyrics to each song from the echoed from every corner of the ballroom.
Handsome ghost is a Boston-based electronic pop act founded by Tim Noyes in 2014. From is indie folk roots, he’s created a downtempo folk pop vibe perfectly suited for swooning hearts. After 2 well received EPs, he released the band’s first full-length album, “Welcome Back”, in 2018
Watching the snow fall from the windows of the back bar, the cold winter setting outside almost made Bowery seem like a much smaller venue. The cold complemented the warmth from inside the venue as we all listened to the stories and lessons learned from the point of view of a broken and mending heart. Mother nature was almost saying, “Grab an adult beverage, we’re going to get through this one together,” for the uncomfortably true lyrics of those shared universal experience of breakups are going to get you in the tracks “Better Off”, “Fool”, and “Honest Mistake”. And even though those lessons of the heart are always the driving force behind the music, it is always perfectly balanced with comforting melodies and Noyes angelic vocals.
It is the halfway point in their tour which ends in Los Angeles at The Troubadour. So Los Angeles people, get the lead out, you don’t want to miss this one.
