Los Angeles, CA- The slang meaning of the word “cabrona” is “A woman who is stubborn, independent and very opinionated. She tends to not care what the rest of the world thinks and would be considered a “badass bitch”. With her latest video for her song of the same name, New Zealand singer-songwriter Gin Wigmore seeks to add another chapter to her new GIRLGANG project with strong female imagery of self-determination and independence.
The video was a collaboration with Cindy Whitehead a renowned skateboarder and the driving force behind Girl Is Not A 4 Letter Word (GN4LW), a brand aiming to give back to girls in action sports through micro grants. “Cabrona” features the athletic talents female skaters Zara Percy, Emma Houle, Kyra Williams and Amanda Caloia. The video imagery is paired with Gin’s uniquely visceral vocals. If you were going sing a song about “bad bitches”, you could do no better than having Gin’s voice speak that message through her soulful rasp.
Gin’s fourth studio album, Ivory, is scheduled to be released in March 2018. Though ridiculously popular in her native home of New Zealand, Gin hasn’t yet broken into the U.S. market. We have a feeling that 2018 could very well be the year that that matter gets remedied.
