Long Beach, CA- Perhaps the one act at Music Tastes Good that best represented the local diversity of the music scene in Long Beach is this one: Dengue Fever. This Long Beach based band featuring the hypnotic vocals of LBC’s own Chhom Nimol offers a brand of Cambodian pop that blends a variety musical genres which include psychedelic rock, surf rock and even jazz.

To call them unique is a massive understatement. There is no other band in the United States that performed the kind of music they do with the type of musicianship that they have. To watch David Ralicke blow into his saxophone is a masterclass on how to transform air into a restless fervor.

Though the language divide may be a barrier that the band will need to grapple with for the foreseeable future, that won’t prevent fans from losing their minds dancing to the music with their eyes closed. There was plenty of that going on on the borders of the crowd assembled to experience Dengue Fever in all their glory.
