Daydream and Beyond: Lily Meola’s Triumphant Turn at Bleached Fest 2023 Thoughts+Photos: Lily Meola at Bleached Fest 8/5/23
SAN DIEGO, CA- When Lily Meola took to the main stage at Bleached Fest, it signaled… to me.. that she’s no longer the budding songbird we once spotted in a snug club corner in 2022. The progression of her artistry is palpable, and what once were the whispers of admiration from that intimate crowd have now turned into the deafening cheers of a colossal audience, fully enveloped by Meola’s charisma.
The sense of déjà vu washed over me as I recalled my piece for BlurredCulture.com from a year prior. Back then, I was again struck by her poise and the silkiness of her voice, which, much like a fine wine, has matured with time.
“Daydream”, the track that skyrocketed her into the limelight following a memorable performance on ‘America’s Got Talent’, was unmistakably the showstopper. As the first chords played out, waves of smiles broke out among the audience. The familiar, dreamy numbers resonated with collective nostalgia, a testament to how influential a song can be in such a short span.
However, it wasn’t just the known tracks that took the audience on an aural expedition. Classic tracks like a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” garnered particular love from the audience. Also, several numbers, presumably unreleased, graced our ears for the very first time. Meola’s capacity to intertwine fresh compositions with fan-favorites, all the while maintaining the crowd’s undivided attention, speaks volumes of her artistic dexterity.
