LONG BEACH, CA- Singer/producer Collie Buddz got the crowd shaking their booties with his soca and hip-hop infused dancehall at One Love. With numerous collaborations under his belt, he released his long awaited sophomore album, “Good Life”, last year (Editor’s note: “Blue Dreamz” and “Playback” are extended plays”).
“Good Life” is an album chalk filled with beat heavy reggae tracks, and featured a ton of special guest appearances. While I had half-hoped that there would be some cross-genre surprise guest joining Collie on stage, the Bermuda based artist needed no assistance to have the crowd vibe with his crossover appeal. That’s not to say that Collie didn’t have another type of guest join him on stage…
Collie, who got his big break with the infectious marijuana anthem “Come Around” (and further solidified his appreciation of the green with his hit “Light It Up”) invited Ozzie Sanchez (the “Giant Joint Guy”) to the stage to light one- a foot long, pound plus one- up on stage. The big ass blunt was smoked and passed, only adding to the party vibe of the session.
During his set, Collie ventured off the stage, engaging with the audience. Whether using a fan’s GoPro to video some of the audience, or even allowing fans to sing along into the mic with him, Collie was a consummate showman, truly making his performance a party that everyone wanted to get into.
