Broken Baby Kicks Ass Live And Amber Bollinger’s Charisma Is Kinetic Don't Miss Broken Baby's Video Release Party At Madame Siam!
LOS ANGELES, CA- Getting to gigs early has always been my modus operandi. If a band that I love is headlining, the odds are good that their openers won’t be anything to sneeze at. One of the bands opening for Dead Sara in October at the Teragram Ballroom proved my point: Broken Baby.
At their core, Broken Baby is Amber Bollinger and Alex Dezen. Now based in Los Angeles, they released their ten track, self-titled debut album in September. The post-punk energy is strong with this album, and the amalgam of the lo-fi yet bright production, punk attitude, and visceral yet crystalline vocals make this debut a solid listen through and through.
But I always reserve my ultimate judgement of a band until I see them perform their music live. Broken Baby did not disappoint.
A lot of that has to do with their lead singer, Amber Bollinger. Her energy on stage was infectious. Though I hardly knew the songs that Broken Baby was performing on this night (I only listened to their album maybe two times through prior to attending the show), I was absolutely smitten with Amber’s charisma and her reckless abandon on stage; dancing like a woman possessed all while nailing her vocals. I say that her energy on stage was infectious … but I think I may be understating my feelings about the performance. After all, if you can get me to shout, “Fuck yeah,” after watching the live performance of a song that I’m not familiar with (as evidenced by the video below), I’m pretty sure it was juuuust a little something a little extra.
I was so pumped about this up and coming band’s live performance that I had to check in with them to see if they’d be willing to take the stage at one of Blurred Culture’s Hollywood Showcases on Saturdays at Madame Siams. Luckily, they were down, and I couldn’t be more pumped about it. If you love melodic, edgy pop-punk, I personally recommend that you check this band out THIS SATURDAY. It’s free, so RSVP and come on out.
