I didn’t know anything about La Bouquet before catching there set at Broke L.A. Even after scouring the internet to learn more about them, I still don’t know very much about them (you need a Facebook page, fellas!), but from I have been able to find, La Bouquet’s core members are Jake Lopez (ex-Sink Swim) and Bryan Sammis (the original drummer for The Neighborhood) and their music is pretty damn good.

On their twitter page, they describe themselves as “the dads of sad”. The music they played at Broke L.A. definitely had some moody, new wave elements in it. At times I got vibes ranging from Morrissey and The Smith vibes to more modern, indie-electronic synth jams. But without trying to pigeon hole them into any genre, let’s just say that it was music that was impressive enough to get me wanting to learn more about them. Heck, if that’s they kind of sad that they’re peddling, I’m more than happy to take it.

They have a debut album, Pure Heartbreak, that’s scheduled to be released soon, so keep you eye out for it. I have a feeling you won’t be too sad to hear it when it drops.
