A Feisty Melissa Brooks And The Aquadolls Headline Play Like A Girl Showcase At The Echo THOUGHTS+PHOTOS: THE AQUADOLLS @ THE ECHO 11/25/17
ECHO PARK, CA- I remember hearing a lot of buzz about about The Aquadolls when they released their debut album, “Stoked On You”, back in 2014, but it wasn’t until I hit up their gig at The Echo on November 25, 2017 hosted by Play Like A Girl.
Fronted by the bubbly and charismatic Melissa Brooks, The Aquadolls entertained the audience with their infectious blend of surf punk and psychedelic rock. It’s a bit of a throwback, but the band’s youthfulness- and Melissa’s crystal clear voice- gives those 80s type beach vibes a modern pop edge that clearly their fans can’t resist.
The band was also entertained with the wild-child abandon that Melissa performed with. Whether she was whipping her long hair as she shred on her guitar, jumping into the crowd to get attendees to dance with her, or dueling with her bassist (Bella Devroede), there was always action on stage that matched the fun in the music.
I tried looking for some newer music by the group, but only found their older tunes online, but With the number of shows that they performed this year, I get the feeling that they’re gearing up for a busy 2018. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them release some new music soon.
