Hollywood, CA- I was able to watch The Atomics Coachella performance earlier this year. Though they would be highly critical of their own performance after the first weekend, I found it pretty enjoyable. Plus, it certainly doesn’t hurt to watch a family of models rock out on stage.

Flash forward a few months later on June 21st, 2017 at The Roxy when they headlined a show their. Wow. What a difference a couple months makes. Perhaps it was playing to a packed room as opposed to playing on huge tented stage, but The Atomics put on a show that had ten times the energy compared to the Coachella performance I watched. It was wild, unhinged and a ton of rambunctious fun.

The band’s lead singer, Starlie Smith, played the confident vixen as the sang, danced and gyrated for the audience with her pink, sheer boat laced robe dancing around her bodice. Daisy and Pyper Smith flanked her and seemed to exude so much more energy and spunk than I recalled them playing with at Coachella, and clearly they were having a good time doing so as I found them smiling huge when they weren’t focused on the licks and lines that they were shredding.

This band only has a handful of tracks out to the public, and while they filled their set with a cover or two (the only one I can remember is their cover of Brittany Spears’ “Toxic” since they performed that at Coachella as well), I’m looking forward to seeing how they beef up their repertoire with more original music.
