LOS ANGELES, CA- I dig Swimm. I dig their sound and their aesthetic and their humor and their attitude … and when I realized that I hadn’t seen them perform since April, I made it a point to catch them play their last gig in Los Angeles for the year at The Morroccan Lounge.
It was, as per usual, a spectacular performance. Playing old song and new, they mixed up their 40 minutes set with bass thumping jams, tender ballads and straight up rockers. The only difference performance wise that I noticed was that Hany was pulling double duty rocking the keys and the bass (and even getting a little feature on the vocals at the very start for the band’s walk-on to a cover of Fiona Apple’s “Criminal” before Chris took over).
Towards the end of their performance, Chris announced to the audience that the band would hosting the sophomore outing of their “Love You Down” musical showcase on February 2, 2018. With a line up filled with local talent including Fog Etc. (Jenny Lee & Stella Mazgawa of Warpaint’s project) and Mating Ritual, it’s looking like it’s primed to be one hell of a party. You can learn more about, and purchase tickets for, Love You Down II HERE.
Oh yeah … and let’s not forget that Swimm will be headlining the event as well. February can’t come soon enough.
