Saves The Day 8/28/16 @ Fuck Yeah Fest. Setlist. When a band decides to play a seminal album from their discography, it’s almost a no-brainer that you go and check it out. At FYF, Saves The Day decided to play “Stay What You Are” in its entirety. Clocking in at just over 33 minutes, I remember listening to this album on repeat while studying in the stacks of my law library. Catching Saves The Day perform this album was, for me, a no-brainer.

In the Saves The Day universe, this album holds a lot of meaning for the band. After going through a tumultuous personal period in their careers, the album’s dark subject matter wrapped in raucous three-chord punk glory, resonated with the post Gen-X generation, and it became an album that found a huge audience back in 2001.

It’s almost perfect timing that Saves The Day bring this album back to life to reintroduce it to a new audience. There will always be an audience for emo infused lyrics, and “Stay What You Are” is an emo classic that clearly has the goods to stand the test of time. It just needs to get heard again, and performing it FYF was a pretty smart marketing move.

They rounded their set off with three other tracks, but I think they gave their fans, old and new, enough with their performance of “Stay What You Are”.
