LOS ANGELES, CA- One of the most exciting bands that I was able to catch at Girlschool happened to be the youngest. Pinky Pinky is a 3-piece “Proto-Prog inspired rock band” out of Los Angeles featuring teenagers Isabelle Fields (18, Guitar), Eva Chambers (18, Bass) and Anastasia Sanchez (20, Vocals/Drums). The girls formed the band while still in high school, and release their debut EP on Bandcamp last year.
Ah, the vivacity of youth. Heavy guitar licks, steady bass lines and aggressive lyrics punctuate this group’s sound; a sound that invokes classic rock vibes drenched in an amalgam of garage/psych/punk rock vibes. It’s a vintage sound with a modern edge.
I’ve never been that partial to lead vocalists being obscured by a drum set, but I’ve got to admit that Anastasia shines behind the kit. Sure, she’s frenetically banging away at the drums- so that imparts part of the energy she gives off- but there’s also this “cool” that radiates that makes her seem much seasoned than her age would imply.
Pinky Pinky is planning on releasing another EP later this year. Do yourself a favor keep an eye on these gals. I sure will.
