LOS ANGELES, CA- When you’re international sporting star with Olympic gold in your resume, getting a band like Phoenix to fly in from Australia to do a spot headlining gig at Air + Style ain’t no thing. After performing in Sydney and Brisbane at the end of February, the band flew into Los Angeles to close out the Air + Style festivities in grand fashion.
While still touring in support of their sixth studio album album, Ti Amo, Phoenix’s Air + Style set consisted of most, if not all, of their biggest hits. “Lisztomania”, “1901”, “If I Ever Feel Better”, “Lasso”, “Too Young”, “Girlfriend” … they were all on the playlist for this performance to the delight of their ardent fans.
While the uniquely mirrored stage production they used during their U.S. tour last year wasn’t utilized for this performance, the huge LED screen behind them provided glorious rainbowed lighting effects that was subtly punctuated by the red, heart-shaped, illuminated neon light on Thomas Hedlund’s kick drum.
It was a spirited performance that served as the perfect conclusion to the weekend’s festivities. When Thomas Mars concluded the performance by doing his now traditional crowd-walk, fans were able to physically connect with the joy that was performed on stage.
