“…I can’t lie. I kinda stan Paper Citizen. Ever since I saw, and heard, Claire Ghost perform her song “Heart On Fire” live, I’ve been hooked. My state of stan can be broken down into two parts: (i) she’s Asian, and I’m Asian, and it’s been a minute since I’ve seen a local Asian artist record pop-rock records; and (ii) she writes some really catchy pop-rock records. “Heart On Fire” aside, I’m a big fan of her cuts “Lifeline” and “Indigo September” from her Wandering Ghost EP, and “Distraction” of her EP of the same name.
I’m also really drawn to the timbre of Claire’s voice. There something really earthy about it. It’s a confident vocal that feels like it comfortably rests in a place between her chest and head voice. It’s the kind of voice that just invites you to take your shoes off and scrunch your toes in the grass. Know what I mean?
This was my second time seeing Paper Citizen perform live, and I’m pretty confident that I’ll be heading out to catch another show when they set another one up. You should too…”
