LOS ANGELES, CA- I’ll admit it … when I hit play on MIRADOR’s debut, I wasn’t expecting to hear Jake Kiszka step into the role of a lead vocalist. After years of following Greta Van Fleet, I had absolutely no idea he had that kind of vocal ability tucked away. And it floored me. His voice, coupled with Chris Turpin (of Ida Mae) doesn’t just fill the room; it brings with it a raw conviction that fits perfectly into the band’s vision of rock.
The song “Must I Go Bound” is one of the more delicate tracks on the record, a haunting, acoustic-led ballad that lingers with folkloric mysticism and timeless resonance. But make no mistake… the album as a whole rocks with a grit and intensity that makes you want to see it live. As the press release notes, MIRADOR conjures “sky-shaking and boundary-bursting rock ‘n’ roll by invoking spirits of ancient myth, traditional folklore, and Delta-born blues.” It’s a description that couldn’t be more appropriate. The delicate acoustic strumming from both Kiszka and Turpin is seamless, weaving together so tightly it feels like one instrument being played by two hands.

What makes MIRADOR exciting is that the chemistry doesn’t feel forced. Kiszka and Turpin clearly share a musical language, one forged through late-night jams and an obsession with blues, folk, and rock’s deepest traditions. “Must I Go Bound” taps into that lineage… the ideas of crossroads, loss, and redemption …. but it does so with a modern clarity that makes the music feel urgent instead of nostalgic.
I’d heard the buzz about MIRADOR, but this was my first time pressing play on one of their releases. It caught me off guard in the best way. I immediately jumped over to Spotify to check out their full debut record, and what I found was a cohesive album that stands as a strong entry in today’s rock lexicon. It’s the sound of two seasoned guitarists pushing beyond their known boundaries to build something new together.
MIRADOR’s self-titled debut doesn’t just live up to the hype — it expands it. If “Must I Go Bound” is any indication, this project has the potential to carve out a mythology of its own. Very impressed.
