LOS ANGELES, CA- Minke is a young British singer, songwriter who has penchant for writing beautifully melodic songs that are imbued with sophisticated themes and deeply-rooted emotional sensibilities. Her 2018 single “Maybe 25”- which has amassed over half a million streams on Spotify- is a song about the emptiness of online dating and the hold technology has over us. Deep, right? Of the song, Minke has explained:
“It was originally inspired by my fleeting past experiences with online dating. As I started to write, it became less and less about that and more a general observation on connection. We’ve never been more connected but disconnected at the same time. It’s made us more insular, less open to having a conversation with a stranger and maintaining eye contact for more than a second without looking at your phone. So it’s about longing for something more than that, whatever that is. Something real in a seemingly disposable world. Questioning if that’s still possible. Questioning if it’s got the better of you too.”
On Valentine’s day, Minke graced the The Hit Hat stage in Los Angeles for a Doc Marten’s musical showcase. She treated the unfamiliar crowd to a short, stripped down set of the songs from her, as of now, yet to be released debut EP The Tearoom, that she will most likely present to more new faces in Austin, TX at various South by Southwest showcases
In addition to “Maybe 25”, Minke performed a handful of other songs that she had previously released, including “Gold Angel” which which was featured on Spotify’s coveted “New Music Friday” playlist and hit No.1 on Hype Machine. She also treated the audience to what I believe was the debut live performance of her latest single “Something Better”, which was released the next day.
“Something Better” comes ahead of her debut EP, The Tearoom which drops on March 8 ahead of a confirmed appearance at the SXSW Music Festival. More dates and details to come.
