LOS ANGELES, CA- If there is a band name the perfectly encapsulates a band’s sound, it may very well be Mild High Club. Fronted by Alexander Brettin, this band’s woozy and laid-back exploration into psychedelic pop/rock sounds had me feeling a little stoned …. and I wasn’t event smoking!
Now … truth be told, I can’t really give a true review of the band’s live performance because I just wasn’t that well versed in their catalog. I did take the time to listen to some of their recorded music before watching them perform, but I just didn’t feel like their performance was as sharp, intricate or melodic as I assumed they would sound.
Perhaps the mid-day time slot may have played a part in my being a little judgmental about this performance. After all, I personally think that their style of music would be best enjoyed (listened to) in an intimate, dark club setting rather than an open air park.
Don’t get me wrong … I totally dig eclectic psychedelic music. I enjoy listening to Mild High Club’s recorded music. I was just having a hard time connecting with this live particular performance.
