RECAP: Their set started off a little rough with some technical difficulties that forced them to take a few minutes after they started to let the sound crew fix whatever was messed up, and Living Colour’s frontman Corey Glover was having none of it.

What’s going on here? Where’s the music? Let’s go!

And on cue, the technical difficulties seemed to magically resolve itself, and the band dove into set that had me rocking down memory lane.

Seeing their name on the line up for Music Tastes Good had me especially giddy. After all, their impact on music in the late 80s and early 90s was immeasurable. Their impact was not only musical but also societal, as they were living proof that the hard rock genre wasn’t a limited to fair skinned musicians, but to everyone. They impacted my life and opened my mind’s eye to see what was possible.

Their performance was just as rowdy as I remembered from the MTV videos I used to watch back in high school, with Corey Glover jumping off the stage and into the crowd to sing to the audience, then sitting on the railing to watch his bandmates jam.  Mr. Glover hasn’t lost any of that mojo from back in the day and each of the players, Vernon Reid, Doug Wimbish and Will Calhoun each slayed on their respective instruments.

While they let their music do most of the talking, Corey did take a moment to get political before the band jumped into their signature song “Cult of Personality”. Clearly, the band still has a lot left to say, and I’m thinking that their message, and their music, is just as important as ever.
