Hollywood, CA — Reaching the masses was important to record label 300 Entertainment headed by music mogul Kevin Liles as they set out to find Hip-Hop’s newest addition. The label, home to multi-platinum acts like Migos and Fetty Wap, teamed up with Verizon and producer London On Da Track to use the unique hashtag #freestyle50Challenge in order to achieve their goal.
Just last year, Tre Da Kid was crowned the first #freestyle50 champion. The challenge rose again this year looking to remind people that battle rap still exists and to provide yet another rising emcee with an opportunity of a lifetime.
On Tuesday (August 29th) the remaining eight contestants of the 2nd Annual Verizon #freestyle50 challenge went head-to-head at Playhouse nightclub in Hollywood, CA. Hosted by Sway Calloway and Smack White, the cypher allowed each contestant the chance to impress a select panel of music industry experts. Judging the competition was radio legend Big Boy, Tuma Basa (Spotify’s Global Programming Head of Hip Hop) and Real 92.3’s DJ A-Oh.
The exclusive event featured individual performances by rising stars OMB Peezy and Cyhi the Prynce and special guest appearances by Lyor Cohen and King Los.
Chicago rapper Y.K Supe slaughtered his opponents and was crowned the new winner of the challenge. The emcee walked away with a 300 Entertainment record deal, a beat produced by London On Da Track, $10,000 and an opening slot on the upcoming Artist Development Tour. Before his victory, Y.K Supe had the chance to perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas earlier this year.
Y.K Supe proved he has the talent and drive. I am excited to hit the studios with him. – London On Da Track
The night ended with a surprise performance by rap icon Redman and Tee Grizzley. Music was provided by DJ Amen, DJ Carisma, and DJ Dre Sinatra of Young California.
Congratulations Y.K Supe!
