Kat Dahlia is a Cuban-American singer/songwriter who broke into the mainstream back in March 2013 with the release of her debut single “Gangsta”. By January of 2015, she dropped debut album, “My Garden”. Though it took perhaps a little more time to release, “My Garden” was lauded as a stellar debut album which drew comparisons to artists like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse and Rihanna. High praise indeed.
Her fans have been longing for a follow-up ever since “My Garden” dropped. She released a few bangers on Soundcloud under the title “20s, 50s, 100s” last year, but it wasn’t until May of this year that Kat dropped new music from her forthcoming “official” album.
With the anticipation of her new music, L.A. Pride was ready to see, and hear, Ms. Dahlia slay. Dressed in an all-white, boss lady pantsuit, Kat gave the audience what they wanted; a mix of hits from her debut album, new music and even songs in the Spanish language. There was a slight hiccup during her performance when she stumbled on some of the lyrics to new song, but with a smile and a giggle, she brushed off the flub and powered through her set letting her powerful voice carry her through the rest of the performance.
A highlight of her performance was when she started singing her hit “I Think I’m In Love Again”. As soon as the first bar of the song was played, the audience released a collective sigh of contentment. Those sighs eventually turned into voices and as soon as the song swelled into the chorus, those voices sang in a a collective unison that reverberated throughout the festival grounds. A lovely moment indeed.
