Jaguar Jonze: The Breakthrough Artist of the Year Nominee You Need to Know Thoughts+Photos: Jaguar Jonze at Cheer Up Charlies during SXSW 3/14/23
AUSTIN, TX- Jaguar Jonze is a talented newcomer who made her debut in the music industry in 2019. Born Deena Lynch, this Australian artist is a multi-talented musician, singer, and songwriter. Prior to pursuing music full-time, she worked as a model and studied film and television production.
Jaguar Jonze’s music caught my attention when I stumbled upon her first EP, Diamonds & Liquid Gold, on my Spotify playlist. Her song “Kill Me with Your Love” stood out with its haunting melody, moody instrumentation, and honest, introspective lyrics that conveyed a sense of yearning and desperation. I was so impressed with her debut album that I ordered a vinyl copy from Australia.
Jaguar Jonze’s talent has not gone unnoticed by the music industry, as she was nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2020 ARIA Awards. I recently had the pleasure of seeing her live at It’s A School Night on October 24, 2022. Knowing that she may not be back in Los Angeles for some time, I made sure to add her to my SXSW schedule.
Jaguar Jonze’s live performances are nothing short of electric. Her powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence create an immersive and moving experience for her fans. She is known for her willingness to be vulnerable and authentic on stage, often sharing personal stories and experiences that add an extra layer of emotional depth to her performances.
During her set at SXSW, she showcased songs from her 2022 debut album Bunny Mode, starting with the angst-filled “Who Died and Made You King.” From there, she kept the energy level high, culminating in a fierce cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” delivered with a snarl and attitude that belied her pop exterior.
In conclusion, Jaguar Jonze is a rising star in the music industry who is not to be missed. Her live performances are a testament to her talent and authenticity, with a fierce energy that will leave a lasting impression on anyone who witnesses it.
