RECAP: When Icona Pop took the stage, my heart seemed to be flooded with joy. Icona Pop is excellent live. The way they sound, the songs they sing, the way they interact on stage … it was pure perfection. Truth be told, I was having so much fun, that most of their set was a blur. But then, that’s the magic of music, right? When music is that full of joy and power that you simply lose track of time, that’s truly magical.
They performed all of the songs that I have stored in my iPod: “Someone Who Can Dance,” “All Night”, “Girlfriend”, “Manners” (which I first heard when I went to see Chiddy Bang perform in Washington D.C. circa 2011), “I Love It”, and “Emergency”, to which Erik Hassle came on stage and rocked out with them and the two back-up singers to wrap up. They even performed their new single “Brightside” which I’m sure will become another one of their anthems.

It’s no secret that Caroline and Aino are best friends, but it truly shows in their performance. They’re two peas in a pod, and you can feel the force of this dynamic duo with the love they have for each other when performing on stage. It’s a kinetic feeling that sent powerful vibes throughout the entire festival grounds. Their pop music, dance moves, and energy just made me feel infinitely happy- like I was at the greatest party having the time of my life. What a gift to be given.
