AUSTIN, TX- For most of our SXSW artist coverage, we’ll keep it relatively short and sweet. We have over 80 artists to cover, so cut us some slack! 😉 We’ll basically be formatting each post into two parts: (1) Why our contributor wanted to see this act and (2) what our contributor thought of the performance”. Easy peasy. If you want to learn more about the act, make sure you click through to their social media links to get in the know. You won’t be disappointed!

Why I Wanted To See Pale Waves: A lot of good … no, great … electronic pop bands come from Europe. The 1975 … Chvrches … The xx … you’d think that the market is saturated enough. But when the music is good … when its filled with catchy hooks … when it’s got the same kind of dreamy, emotional vibe that The Cure gave us back in the 80s, it’s penetration into the US market is somewhat inevitable.
One of my contributor’s kept nudging me about covering Pale Wave’s 12/2/17 show in Los Angeles. At the time I wasn’t too familiar with their music, but after I read her review I felt compelled to dive into their music as well.
What I Thought Of Pale Wave’s Performance: There’s something engaging about Pale Wave’s front woman Heather Baron-Gracie. Sure, the goth look with the white makeup and black garb that she shows give her a certain mystique, but it’s really her demeanor on stage that captivates.
With every twitch in her neck, or gesture of her hands, I couldn’t keep my eyes off her. Even when she looked longingly into the audience, I actually felt compelled to turn my head to try to see what it was she was looking at. There’s a mysterious intensity to her that really is magnetic.
Couple Heather’s idiosyncratic stage presence her band’s 90’s pop infused sonics, and it’s a pairing that I really couldn’t get enough of, and I’m truly looking forward to hear what else this band’s got in store for us.
