LOS ANGELES, CA- Iconic SoundCloud music meets die-hard Kpop fans, and an electrifying connection blossoms. Celebrating Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month, Taiwanese-American SoundCloud DJ, Giraffage (nee Charlie Yin) kicked off his US tour at Identity LA.
Showcasing his iconic eight-bit mixing style, Giraffage hopped on stage just as the sun began to set. Digital cartoon animations and emoji filled visuals are Giraffage’s signature style during his live shows, and as always, were on full display throughout his set.
From the start, Giraffage transported us to a mid-summer rave with a few of his most recognizable remixes including jams from Porter Robinson, Janet Jackson, Soulja Boy, and R-Kelly’s “Ignition”. After hyping up the crowd he switched it up and hit us with his original tracks “Tell Me” and “So Cute!” feat. Slow Magic, aka a YouTube vlogger’s go-to song.
But the crowd and hosts of Identity LA, Wong Fu Production and Far East Movement, totally went HAM when Giraffage spun AZN’s 2009 “Got Rice” into the mix. Obviously, paying homage to old school Asian Pride and culture for APA Heritage Month.
Giraffage out did himself on this one, and for the perfect occasion too. I’m definitely considering catching his next set at BottleRock Napa on his US tour.
