AUSTIN, TX- Viben & The Submersibles was another band that I was introduced to at SXSW this year. Apparently, they are the merging to two recordings (1.Viben & 2.The Submersibles), and they brought a unique a unique fusion of funk and disco… with maybe a bit of psychedelia… to the stage.
Though they were unknown to me, this band had me shaking my hips to their dynamic, groove-filled sound. This five piece band had solid energy and I was struck by how seamlessly this band merges the funky bass-lines and soulfully subdued vocals with the glittering synths and danceable beats of disco. Lots of bodies were moving along to their uptempo songs. It was the playfulness of their music that stuck with me. Their ability to infuse their music with a sense of joy and freedom was quite impossible to resist. Honestly, they had some club jams that I could see myself dancing myself clean to on a Friday night.
This melding of talent seems like a good start, and Viben & The Submersible seems primed to get the party started, with the dance floor is calling your name.
