OAKLAND, CA- In 2017, Houses of Heaven released their EP Remnant. Heavy with layered synths and rapid-fire, Remnant is a gloriously dark assault on the senses. If “In Soft Confusion” is any indication, their forthcoming debut, full-length album Silent Places will do the same.

Based out of Oakland, CA, Houses of Heaven are Keven Tecon, Adam Beck, and Nick Ott. They have mentioned that Silent Places was “written against the backdrop of the Northern California wildfires, ever-growing tent cities and the continued rise of empty luxury housing in the Bay Area, the album explores the intimate experiences that transpire within the chaotic confines of modern living.”

The video for “In Soft Confusion” is a simple and mysterious visual, that occasionally glitches with the music. The visuals may seem simple, but they are nonetheless hypnotic, giving the music, and lyrics, an ominously foreboding groove.

With Keven Tecon’s stoically soothing vocals singing over the song’s hypnotic electronic pulse, you may miss out on how actually heavy the lyrics are. Concrete ruins … drowning fears … silent places… it’s a soundscape pondering life after extinction. Pandemnic anybody? Dark music for dark times. It’s about as relevant and relevant can get.
