LOS ANGELES, CA- It’s official: I’m a terrible music journalist. Or maybe just tragically late to the party. Frankie and the Witch Fingers have been warping minds and wrecking stages since at least 2015, and I first had them on my radar around 2018. And yet, despite having their fuzz-fried, genre-melting tracks in constant algorithmic rotation for the better part of a decade, I have yet to witness the madness unfold live. With the release of their new single “Total Reset,” I’m left bouncing in my chair—again—wondering why I’ve never felt that sonic detonation in my chest in real time.

“Total Reset,” the latest sneak peek from their upcoming LP Trash Classic (out June 6, 2025 via The Reverberation Appreciation Society / Greenway Records), is not so much a song as it is a jolt of electrified chaos. It’s Devo on a bender shaking hands with AI overlords and dancing on the ruins of humanity. The staccato riffs jab like high-voltage shocks. The vocals come in tight and twitchy, bordering on robotic but burning with human sarcasm. It’s everything you want from a band that’s made a reputation out of detonating expectations—and your nervous system. “Total Reset” arrives snarling, soaked in a chemically saturated synth sheen, and twitching with punk-freak energy.

The song’s backstory only adds to its post-everything appeal. According to the band, it’s a “spasmodic blast of punk and synth freakery,” cheekily claiming that AI wrote the whole thing—“faster, cheaper, zero complaints.” The result? A doomsday dance number for the algorithmic age. The lyric video, suitably grimy and weird, reinforces the vibe: humanity may be toast, but the party’s still raging in the ashes.

The band’s not letting up on the live front either. Their upcoming “Trash Classic” world tour kicks off next month, promising a run of shows that will no doubt deliver their signature blend of audio annihilation and psych-punk sorcery.

Recorded with producer Maryam Qudus (La Luz, Spacemoth) at Tiny Telephone Studio in Oakland, it’s rumored that Trash Classic was born and raised on a diet of candy, cartoons, and corrupted hard drives. The sessions began each day with Looney Tunes blaring and ended in sugar-fueled delirium, warping whatever restraints remained. It’s no wonder the resulting songs twist and jitter with unhinged energy, gleefully veering into synth-punk, industrial crunch, and proto-punk filth.

And, to me, that’s the joy of Frankie and the Witch Fingers. Over the years, I’ve heard them evolve…. no, scratch that… they mutate. Each record is a different monster, but always with that signature glint in the eye. “Total Reset” might be the anthem we didn’t know we needed: one part apocalyptic warning, one part adrenaline drip.

If you’re like me and still haven’t caught them live, consider this your final warning. The AI might not be able to save you—but Frankie and the Witch Fingers just might reset your soul.
