LOS ANGELES, CA- Frank Iero may have gotten big break with My Chemical Romance (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), but he’s since blazed a solid career having released two studio albums (Stomachaches and Parachutes) and an EP (Keep the Coffins Coming) under different band names (Frnkiero and the Callabration & Frank Iero and the Patience) since My Chemical Romance disbanded. Recently, Frank and his new band, The Future Violents, release a new single, “Young and Doomed”, in advance of a new studio album titled Barriers which is currently scheduled for release later this month.
“Young and Doomed” is a rip roaring track of unbridled angst that punks, emos and rockers can all get behind. Fans of his work with My Chemical Romance may also be pleasantly surprised as “Young and Doomed” also has the kind of emotional gravitas that MCR had. Frank’s vocals are particularly melodic and emotive.
As the opening act for the domestic leg of Taking Back Sunday’s “20” tour, Frank and the Future Violents brought a solid energy to the stage. Frank performed his new singled midway through his set, but the rest of his performance consisted music from his prior releases.
While it would have been nice to hear some of the new cuts from Barriers, the adrenaline filled aggression of the old songs in his repertoire like “World Destroyer” (which he opened his set with) and “Oceans” (which he closed his set with), served as the perfect appetizer to whet the audience’s anticipation for the evening’s headliners. Each burst of punk fueled fury had the audience pogoing or nodding their heads to the beat. The vibrations from the crows was particularly palpable during the electric “Dear Percocet, I Don’t Think We Should See Each Other Anymore”, with Frank’s final howl of “This life is yours, if you want it” serving as the ultimate release prior to the crowd’s cheer.
Frank will be headlining his own domestic tour in support of his forthcoming album starting in Philadelphia at the Foundry on May 29 and concluding at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on August 10th. We can anticipate a setlist featuring all new material, and I, for one, can’t wait to hear what in store for his fans.
