LOS ANGELES, CA- People often ask me what I listen to. My answer is never simple—usually a variation on “a little bit of everything.” Pop, country, hip-hop, grunge. But when the shadows creep in and I need music that feels elemental and otherworldly, I find myself drawn to something darker. Something heavier. Something like Faetooth.

The Los Angeles-based trio has carved out their own genre on Bandcamp—”fairy-doom”—a descriptor that captures both the ethereal beauty, and crushing weight of their sound. Their latest track, “Death of Day,” is a stunning, slow-burning invocation. Like a gothic psalm whispered through a veil of distortion, it seethes with both rage and reverence.

The song’s lyrical roots dig deep into myth, drawing inspiration from the archetype of “Lilith”, a figure exiled for daring to exist outside of sanctioned norms. Bassist and vocalist Jenna Garcia explains:

“She is cast out into isolation from the moment she came into being… I began to view that as a strong parallel to the existence of queer and trans people in a world that is constantly trying to exterminate and diminish them.”

It’s a powerful framing—and one that’s echoed in the lyrics, which are equal parts incantation and defiance:

“Wretched be thy name / The barren light at dawn / Lone in the mulch, your filthy flesh atop… / We’ll bring a parade / Of all deemed unworthy.”

Faetooth’s music has always intrigued me—especially their words. Their latest offering reads like a creation myth for the misfits, sung from the perspective of the earth itself. There’s something cathartic in the way they blend guttural shrieks with spellbinding shoegaze textures, doom-laden riffs, and a lyrical ethos that centers the cast-aside.

If this sounds like a lot, it is. Their music isn’t for everyone—and that’s precisely the point. But for those who feel the weight of otherness, Faetooth offers an echo chamber of dark beauty and fierce solidarity.

With a summer trek across Europe, and a fall tour alongside Belgian shoegazers Slow Crush, Faetooth is poised to spread their shadowy gospel even further.

For the bold, the curious, and the seekers of sound that lies beyond the veil—go find Faetooth. You might just find a piece of yourself in the rot.**
