RECAP: I’ve been keeping an eye (and ear) on Echosmith for a few years now. I’m not naturally drawn to youthful pop acts, but ever since I found out that Mike Elizondo produced their debut album, “Talking Dreams” (released in 2013), my interest piqued. After all, Elizondo is a grammy award winning producer and chart topping songwriter of a handful of albums that I listen to often.
Now, as a man in my late 30’s, I think you would be hard pressed to find me at Echosmith gig mixing it up with people half my age (Graham Seriota is only 17 … man I feel old). Luckily, music festivals give me the opportunity to check out bands that I perhaps wouldn’t normally go out of my way to see live. Thankfully, Echosmith played KAABOO and I could disguise my sincere interest in the band as a concert photographer.
I’m not gonna lie … Echosmith was pretty damn adorable. Playing their perfectly crafted pop melodies to an adoring, youthful crowd, it was easy understand to why people are drawn to their sonics. Also, it definitely doesn’t hurt having their front woman, Sydney Sierota, be cute as a button dressed in her pastel pink dress, and spinning a bright yellow parasol behind her as she sang.
It will be interesting to see how this band matures in the years to come, but I’m willing to bet that they’ll continue their upswing as long as they write more catchy melodies and collaborate with talent on par with the Elizondos of the world.
