San Bernardino, CA- Sacramento-based Alternative rock band Deftones took the Main Stage at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest earlier this month. The annual weekend celebration, which has taken place since 1997, took place on November 4 and 5 at the Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California. Frontman Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, Sergio Vegas and Dominic Garcia promptly took the stage at 6:15 p.m. and kicked off their performance with a rousing performance of “Headup.”
As fog billowed onto and encompassed every inch of the main stage, accompanied by green strobes, the gang made their way into a 13-song setlist over the course of an hour, filled with signature jams such as Around the Fur‘s “My Own Summer (Shove It),” White Pony‘s “Digital Bath,” self-titled‘s “Minerva,” and Diamond Eyes‘ “Rocket Skates.”
Deftones‘ performance was quite honestly the perfect introduction into what a revolutionary evening was about to materialize into at the festival grounds. Not even three songs in and Chino found his way over the crowd held up by security guards. Attendees were constantly enticed throughout the remainder of the performance and a number of mosh pits began to ensue, as Moreno and his crew broke out into one of the heavier numbers of the set, “Elite.” Bringing a tremendous amount of intensity, stamina, and pizzazz throughout the entire performance, the troupe closed out their set with “Engine No. 9” as they gave thanks to those in attendance.
