PROVIDENCE, RI- American rock band Circa Survive kicked off their Amulet Tour on Friday night at The Strand in Providence, RI. Bringing along Foxing, Hail the Sun, and the kind of fandom that you often hear about and yet have to see to truly understand.
Foxing knows what we are talking about, and even they took a moment to thank Circa Survive for the power and influence that Circa had in inspiring Foxing’s members in their own journey’s to become musicians; noting what an incredible moment it was for them to be on the tour. Foxing almost feeling the need to not disappoint their heroes, played their hearts out and definitely picked up a few fans in the process.

When Circa Survive took the stage, the audience was riled up in an anxious frenzy. That anticipation was rewarded by the band, who gave it their all on stage.
Never missing an opportunity to reach out and literally connect to fans, front man Anthony Green will catch crowd surfers hands to connect, appreciate and soften the blow as fans are going over the railing. He will also take a moment during the performance to point out fans that have been to every show that Circa Survive has performed since 1987, and name every show that he can think of to prove he knows the person. Now that’s some serious fan appreciation.
It’s the small moments like that that make it easy to understand where that kind of fandom and loyalty comes from. It’s the kind of devotion that fans reciprocate with singing every word to every song in a 14 song set list, singing so loud to the point that their voices drowned out the music from the band.
When Circa Survive initially left the stage, it was the unrelenting urging of the crowd that persuaded them to return for an encore. And although their encore may have left many fans only longing for more (it was only one song, and trust me when I say that the crowd would have raged and surfed all night), that moment truly embodied the kind devotion that every Circa Survive fan experiences.
I wish I could have found some video from the show. Not even video of the band performing, but just video of the sheer excitement from the fans, because it was, quite simply, unreal. Circa Survive may have left Providence, but rest assured that little old Rhode Island can’t wait to have them back.
