What began as a music festival out of Brooklyn in 2005, AFROPUNK has been spreading its wings since to further their mission statement of “aim[ing] to disrupt narrow definitions and stereotypes popularized by global media outlets.”
On November 20th, 2016, AFROPUNK and Red Bull Sound Select collaborated for a special “30 Days In LA” event; a “Fancy Dress Ball” ft. Big Freedia. We sent two contributors to cover the event: one person to capture and review the music, and another to people-watch and sneak candid photos of some of the attendees.
Our “people watcher” was armed with a 50mm f1.4 lens, and didn’t use a flash, capturing the cultural and ethnic diversity that was present at this event.
